Custodian

Position Summary:

The Custodial Maintenance position at Dakota Wesleyan University is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of campus buildings and grounds. This includes performing a variety of cleaning tasks, ensuring that facilities meet sanitation standards, and addressing maintenance issues as needed. The ideal candidate for this role is detail-oriented, organized, and dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, common areas, classrooms, and office spaces on a daily basis
  • Dust furniture, sweep and mop floors, vacuum carpets, and empty trash receptacles
  • Perform deep cleaning tasks as needed, such as shampooing carpets or waxing floors
  • Ensure that cleaning supplies and equipment are properly maintained and stored
  • Report any maintenance issues or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down for events and activities on campus
  • Work collaboratively with other custodial staff to prioritize tasks and ensure that all areas are cleaned thoroughly
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries
  • Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in custodial or maintenance work is preferred
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, and reach overhead
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions
  • Some events require evenings or weekend hours
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and safety procedures
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
