JOB SUMMARY
This position performs customer service duties in support of the operations, programs, and services of the city library.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists patrons at the circulation desk; checks materials in and out; collects monies for copies, fees, and lost or damaged items; issues library cards; assists patrons in locating materials in the collection.
- Empties book drops during regular library hours.
- Updates patron accounts.
- Processes holds and notifies patrons when holds are available for pick-up.
- Participates in opening and closing procedures.
- Assists patrons in the use of library computers and other technology.
- Processes library materials.
- Assists with programming as needed.
- Assists with creating displays for the library.
- Performs related duties.
- Ability to learn, understand, and implement library circulation principles, policies, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of computers and basic computer applications.
- Ability to learn library-related software and databases.
- Knowledge of money handling principles.
- Ability to pay attention to details.
- Ability to process library materials properly.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor with customers and co-workers.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public
- Skill in the use of office equipment
- Skill in providing quality customer service
$12.56 per hour
