JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, plans, organizes, facilitates and conducts quality programs in-person, offsite and virtually for all ages for self-directed learning, cultural engagement, and community building. Performs a variety of library work for circulation and other library services and activities. Programming responsibilities account for 75% of the position, and circulation responsibilities account for  25% of the position.

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

* Plans, coordinates and facilitates in-house library programs, training classes or other patron-oriented activities for all ages both in collaboration with Librarians and independently.

* Collaborates with and supports Librarians in planning and conducting outreach programs and activities to community organizations, schools, retirement centers and other groups to promote library services and programs.
 
* Designs marketing materials and displays to promote library services and programs through the creation of physical and digital signage and the utilization of the library’s social media accounts.

* Performs circulation desk duties, including providing customer service, checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, assisting patrons in locating materials, collecting library fees, and answering patron questions.

* Assists patrons in the use of computers, printers, and scanners.

* Develops displays.

* Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
* Knowledge library policies and procedures.

* Knowledge of library technology. 

* Knowledge of reference services principles. 

* Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. 

* Skill in the development and implementation of programming for groups of all ages

* Skill in working with others in a team approach.

* Skill in report preparation and presentation. 

* Skill in oral and written communication. 

* Ability to work varied schedule as necessary.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Library Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
 
GUIDELINES 
Guidelines include American Library Association guidelines, city personnel policies, and library policies and procedures.  These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.  

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
 * The work consists of varied duties in support of the operations of the city library.  Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the work.   

* The purpose of this position is to facilitate library programming and the general operations of the city library.  Successful performance in this position assures the effective and efficient operation of the library. 

 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
 * The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects. 

* The work is typically performed in a library. 
                                                                                                                                                                   
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 * Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of an associate’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.

* Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

*Starting pay is $23.846 per hour.  Position is open until January 25, 2026.
