Dakota Wesleyan University is offering a year-long free Lecture Series on topics of contemporary interest.
The third in the series will be held on Tuesday, Mar. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Pratt Alumni Board Room in the new School of Business, Leadership and Innovation on the DWU campus. Dr. Rachel Lamb is a Maryland Sea Grant State Science Policy Fellow working with the Maryland Department of the Environment Climate Change Program.
Lamb is one of the founders of Young Evangelicals for Climate Action and currently serves as a senior advisor to the organization. In 2015, Lamb was named a White House Champion of Change for her efforts in protecting our environment and communities from the effects of climate change. Her lectures will address finding connections between faith and climate action.
Lamb’s presentation is entitled “Ecosystem Restoration as a Tool for Climate Mitigation: Quantifying the Carbon Benefits of Our Natural and Working Land.”
The Carhart Lectures were endowed by DWU alumnus Homer Carhart ’36, whose engineering firm provided services to the armed forces for many years. Carhart served on the panel of experts who investigated the explosion aboard the spaceship Challenger.
The annual Stark lecture will round out this year’s series. Harry Boyte of Minneapolis, Minn., will speak on “The Role of Small Colleges in Developing a Healthy Democracy.” Boyte’s presentation will be held on Wednesday, Apr. 13.
All presentations are free and open to the public. Each lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Pratt Alumni Board Room in the new School of Business, Leadership and Innovation and will also be livestreamed at dwu.edu/live. All events are subject to necessary COVID protocols as each situation requires. Check the DWU website events calendar or social media for updates.
These events are made possible in part by funds from a Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE) Network Across the Academy grant (Community Partnership initiative). Nearly $700,000 in grants were awarded to Council of Independent Colleges member institutions to help campus leaders support vocational exploration and discernment among undergraduate students.
