KORN News Radio received two 1st Place Eric Sevareid Awards during the recent Midwest Journalism Conference in St. Paul, Minnesota.
News Director J.P. Skelly accepted the awards for Best Small Market Radio Morning Newscast-April 7th, 2025 as well as Best Small Market Radio Talk-Public Affairs Program for KORN News Radio’s long-running program, “Inside State Government”, March 8th, 2025.
The Eric Sevareid Awards are named for the North Dakota-born and University of Minnesota-educated journalist best known for his work as a correspondent for CBS Radio and Television. Each year, the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association presents awards to the best work done by broadcast news operations and journalists working in small, medium and large markets in our six-state region on radio, television and online. Our distinguished panel of judges is made up of journalists and educators who live outside of Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, Iowa and Nebraska to help ensure impartiality.
For more than two decades, KORN News Radio has earned numerous Sevareid Awards in a variety of categories including Soft Feature, Best Use of Audio, Writing and Sportscast.
Skelly served as a long-time member of the MBJA Board of Directors and twice MBJA president.
