Mitchell Hometown Hero Banner Project
The Mitchell Hometown Hero Banner Project is a community-driven initiative dedicated to honoring the men and women from Mitchell who have proudly served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces, including Active Duty, National Guard, Reserve, and Veteran service members. Through the display of personalized banners across the community, the project recognizes the courage, sacrifice, and commitment of those who call Mitchell home.
Each banner proudly features a local service member’s name, photograph, and branch of service, recognizing them as a Mitchell Hometown Hero. Displayed along Mitchell’s Main Street and throughout public spaces, these banners serve as a visible tribute to our military members and the families who support them, while reminding our community of the freedoms they help protect every day.
The first wave of 39 banners is currently in production and includes members of the 665th Support Maintenance Company, the 147th Army Band, and active service members from Mitchell area units. A second wave of 50 banners is now open for applications through June 5, allowing time for production and installation before July 4th, 2026 (tentative).
The cost to sponsor and display a Hometown Hero banner is $200 per banner. After submitting the information form, participants will receive a follow-up email requesting photo permissions along with an invoice for the banner.
Participation in the Hometown Hero Banner Project is reserved for individuals who consider Mitchell their hometown. Our goal is to continue expanding this meaningful program and its impact within the community for years to come.
