Mitchell Main Street and Beyond is chasing the chill this fall and winter season.
Woelfel Park, on the corner of Third Avenue and Main Street, will be alive with color starting Nov. 6 for the Chase the Chill donation event, an initiative held in communities across the country to help others stay warm.
Scarves, mittens, gloves, and hats will be hung throughout the park around the clock, and anyone is welcome to take what they need.
The items will be available for anyone?those in need, regardless of qualifiers, can help themselves," Gwenda Koch said.
Koch, MMS&B member and co-owner of Cornerstone Coffee House and Deli in Mitchell, said they are asking all area stitchers to help celebrate the art and beauty of knitting and crocheting, building community and sharing with others.
The event is part of a wider effort by MMS&B to increase and bring vitality to Mitchell's Main Street.
A community "knit-in" in which community members can come together to knit, create and learn to knit and crochet will be held at the Cornerstone Coffee House and Deli in Mitchell. Crochet lessons will be held at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 7 and 14, and knitting and crochet lessons will be held each Tuesday, starting Oct. 6, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. There is no charge, and Koch suggests bringing regular worsted yarn and size 10 needles.
