Resume service helps Greenway land at home in Mitchell
Jason Greenway always knew he wanted to come home to Mitchell after college. Thanks to some advice from his mom, things came together rather quickly.
A stand-out athlete at Mitchell High School, Jason was recruited by Augustana University, where he played football and participated in track. He double-majored in business administration and finance with minors in accounting and entrepreneurship.
When he graduated college, he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. His mom, Janet Greenway, is the career services and advising director at Mitchell Technical Institute, and she encouraged him to upload his resume on the movetomitchell.com website. Soon, he started hearing from local businesses. He found the right fit with CorInsurance.
“Within about three weeks, I was working,” he said.
Now licensed for farm, crop, home, auto, life and commercial insurance, his focus has centered mostly on agriculture, which he attributes to his familiarity with farming. He spends time each week in the CorTrust banks in Artesian and Mount Vernon to better serve clients there.
“I really enjoy seeing the farms,” he said.
Outside of his working hours, Jason is an active guy. He purchased a home and rents to a couple of roommates. He likes to ride his bike and is a member of the Palace City Pedalers. He also coaches running backs and defense for the MHS football team, and he volunteers with the youth wrestling program.
“My coaches had a huge impact on me,” Jason said, “so I want to create those relationships, too. The guys who were once my coaches are now my friends.”
He also participated in the Mitchell Chamber’s Leadership Mitchell program, and says he’d recommend it to anyone.
“We saw the inner workings of the city and learned about the city budget,” he said. “For example, I saw firsthand how much the local public safety department does with the budget they have. I think that the money the community spends on improvement and amenities is a good investment. If we want young people to move to Mitchell, we need to keep investing in improvements.”
Although he appreciates being in the same community with his family, Jason says he probably sees less of his parents now than he did when he was a college student in Sioux Falls.
“It’s important to be on my own, even if I’m in the community I grew up in,” he said. “The best part of being here is the social aspect – I have a lot of friends in Mitchell – and it creates opportunities for me. I still do landscaping and painting in my spare time.”
Jason appreciates the ability to hunt and fish around Mitchell, and he also learned to fly fish when he was in high school. He says he watched YouTube videos to learn the sport, and he and his twin brother and a good friend hiked about 35 miles into the Wind River Mountains in Wyoming last summer to experience the top-rated fly-fishing destination. He said the trip was challenging and that that they were “in over their heads but made it out alive.”
Although his adventures may take him away from Mitchell, Jason is happy to call this his home base.
“I always anticipated coming home,” he said. “I feel good about the things that are happening here.”
