Mitchell Life is Picture Perfect for Boyd Family

Boyd Financial in Mitchell is on its way to becoming a family business.  Ryan is just one of the Boyd boys joining their dad Todd advising people towards personal wealth. Younger brother Spencer is the newest family member to join the business just a few weeks ago.

Ryan said his father plans retirement in the next ten years, and with him and Spencer now both in the business, their clients will be well-served in a seamless transition.
Ryan stated, “It’s now a time for them to get to know me.” “With Spencer now on board, a continuation plan is in place.”

Ryan, a native to Mitchell, left to attend the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, and then funeral director school online while living in Rapid City.

At USD, he found his lovely wife Erika, who graduated with a business degree. They now are a family of three, with adorable Arthur making his debut seven months ago.

“All I ever knew was Ryan studying for something,” states Erika. First at USD, then online funeral director school, and most recently for his Life Insurance exam, Series 7, Series 66, and Securities exam, Ryan has had his head in the books for most of his married life.

Upon returning to Mitchell, Ryan worked for Bitner Funeral chapel for three years and still works on-call as Deputy Coroner for Davison County. He said he loves funeral service, but “with the opportunity to join the family business and prospect of more time spent with Erika and Arthur,” he couldn’t pass that up.

Not only did Ryan join the family business, but he and Erika also purchased the family home where his mother, Nancy, grew up. They live on the east side of Mitchell in a beautifully maintained home with a gorgeous view of gently rolling hills. Hills, Ryan quips, “we spent time sledding on in winter and summer, with the help of a little W-D40.”

In addition to adding baby Arthur to the home a few months ago, a beautiful baby grand piano sits majestically in the living room corner. Ryan is a gifted piano player. If you know any of the Boyd’s, you know that music is a family talent and tradition.

In addition to music, Ryan brews beer in his basement and participates in a beer club with other brewing hobbyists. He is also a member of the Lion’s Club and Masonic Lodge.

Erika, like Ryan, joined her family’s business, Handyman Home Remodeling Center in Sioux Falls, upon graduation. She is grateful to primarily work remotely doing marketing, social media, web page design, and radio. With a doting grandma in Mitchell and one in Sioux Falls, Erika has ready-made and eager babysitters whenever she needs to check in at work in Sioux Falls.

In her spare time, Erika enjoys gardening and growing beautiful house plants. Cooking is another love, one in which she does as much as possible from scratch and with Ryan. Dinner club is a social activity they do with friends, preparing delicious home-cooked meals while rotating homes.

Together, Ryan and Erika feel Mitchell is the perfect place for them. It is a family-friendly community with many friends their age with the same values. They couldn’t be happier here.
